Autoclaves for Veterinary Practices

Vets across the country turn to steam sterilization to ensure everything from their surgical instruments to the biowaste they create remains free from harmful contaminants such as bacteria, bacterial spores, and viruses. So when it comes to the equipment your practice uses to keep patients safe and limit the spread of infection, having a reliable veterinary autoclave in your lineup is essential.

At Consolidated Sterilizer Systems, we design and manufacture a range of autoclaves that meet the unique requirements of veterinary practices. All of our models are built using high-grade materials, meaning they’re durable, reliable, and able to serve your sterilization needs for years to come.

Autoclaves for Veterinary Practices

Steam Sterilization & Veterinary Hospitals

Patient wellbeing is the top priority at any veterinary clinic. And as one of the most effective sterilization methods, most practices rely predominately on steam sterilization (via gravity displacement autoclaves) to ensure a safe clinical environment.

Common veterinary autoclave loads include:

  • Surgical instruments — scalpels, forceps, clamps, scissors
  • Tools — dental scalers, probes, extractors, syringes
  • Textiles — non-synthetic gowns, caps, drapes
  • Glassware — vials, flasks, test tubes
  • Biohazardous waste — used sharps, animal waste, blood samples
  • Culture media and lab samples — petri dishes, agar plates, bacterial cultures

Cycle Selection

Typical Cycles for Veterinary Practices

All of Consolidated’s sterilizers are equipped to run multiple kinds of steam sterilization cycles. Vets will find the following cycle types useful:
Gravity Cycle
Gravity
The most basic sterilization type, a gravity cycle uses gravity to replace air in the chamber with steam via a drain port. Gravity cycles are best suited for fabric packs, unwrapped and wrapped instrument trays, and glassware.
Pre-Vacuum
Pre-Vacuum
Air is mechanically removed from both the chamber and the load through a series of vacuum and pressure pulses. This allows the steam to penetrate porous areas of the load that can’t otherwise be reached with simple gravity displacement. Pre-vacuum cycles are best suited for double-wrapped instrument trays and fabric packs.
Liquids Cycle
Liquids
A liquid cycle is the same as a gravity cycle, though it uses a slower exhaust rate to minimize boil-over. Liquid cycles are best suited for media, LB broth, and water.
Bowie-Dick Test Cycle
Bowie-Dick Test
This cycle is used for daily air removal testing.
