An autoclave air filter filters air out of a chamber during a vacuum release at the end of a sterilization cycle. Air filters should be replaced every 300 cycles, or anytime the component has failed, which is typically when steam or water begins to escape the chamber. Autoclave air filters should be replaced in tandem with a vacuum release valve and spring-loaded check valve.
